Together, we can turn the tide.

We are a growing group of Falmouth parents and other community members concerned about the evolution of a screen-based childhood. Together, we will coordinate toward a healthier, less technology-based childhood in Falmouth, improving our schools and family life, and protecting our kids' mental health.

Inspired by Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation, our mission is to motivate and empower teens, parents and educators in our community to act collectively to free children and adolescents from a childhood spent largely alone on screens, and instead promote independence, free play, and responsibility in the real world.

We are building a community that is thoughtful about our collective use of technology.

Navigating the digital age of parenting is no easy feat. We're all trying to figure this out, and none of us have all the answers.

Maybe you've given your child a smartphone and you're curious about exploring other solutions.

Maybe you're feeling pressured to give them one, even though your gut says otherwise. Or maybe you're just not sure what to do.

Wherever you are on this journey, you have a place in our alliance.

You won't have to feel alone in grappling with these issues, like you're failing no matter what decision you make, or like you're constantly policing your kids.

Together, we can navigate this complex landscape with grace and understanding.

It’s not too late to change course.

Collective action gives parents a technology off ramp they don’t have as an individual.

In The Anxious Generation, Jonathan Haidt lays out four reforms or “new norms” that would provide a foundation for a healthier childhood in the digital age. It is often hard for one person, one family, or one school to swim against the tide of ever-increasing screen time. But we believe if we act together, we can turn the tide.

  • No smartphones before high school

  • No social media before 16

  • No phones in schools

  • More free, independent play

“Schools should ensure that classroom learning and social time are phone-free experiences.”

-US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, in the the New York Times, June 17, 2024
